Jerome Avery

Jerome Avery is a 4x Paralympic guide runner and 2x Paralympic champion who has guided athletes to Paralympic gold medals and World Championship titles. Beyond the track, Jerome is a speaker, visual artist, and mentor who co-created the “Connected Insight” program with Lex Gillette, using their partnership to teach teamwork, communication, and leadership.

  • Competed as an individual in the Olympic Trials in 2004 and 2000
  • Currently partnered with Lex Gillette as hislong jump guide as they prepare for LA28

  • Serves as the Director of Athletic Development and Strategic Partnerships at the SightSchool, which teaches sprinting to blind athletes
  • Set a record with athlete, Edery Herrera, for a visually impaired athlete + guide team by ringing the bell at the NYSE and then climbing 1.576 stairs at the Empire State Building
  • Member of the USA Track & Field “2025 Tier & Talent Protection Program” list for guides
  • Visual artist, mentor, and powerful speaker on teamwork and empowering others to reach their full potential
  • Enjoys adventuring around San Diego with his dogs, attending a Padres game, shopping, watching movies, running, relaxing, going to the beach, fishing, making music, and dancing
  • Has a passion and love for his plant babies and furry best friends
